Awas Beach

When Jewish people came to india along its west coast, some of them landed in village of kihim and navgaon(a nearby village). Between these two beautiful villages lies a Jewish cemetery, Jerusalem gate built by them years ago. Few years ago Jewish people left from there, but some of them still visit this Jerusalem gate to reminisce their history.

Kankeshwar Mandir

It’s a beautiful shiv temple 900 ft above sea level along with some ponds and wells and some beautiful flora and fauna which are unique to that area. There is a breakfast center near the mandir where you can feast on a dish of hot poha and tea after a hike.

Revdanda Fort

The fort is located at the mouth of the Kundalika River. It is easily accessible by road. The Alibag-Murud road passes through the fort. Earlier the fort was guarded on three sides by creek water. The main entrance is from the southern side. This fort was built by Portuguese Capt. Soj, and completed in 1524. It was in the control of the Portuguese till 1806 when it was captured by Marathas. Finally, it was captured by the British in 1818.

Karmarkar sculptures Museum

The famous statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj opposite Gateway of India is built by the late Mr. Nanasaheb Karmarkar, a great artist from sasawane, near awas beach. His house is converted into a beautiful museum with all the sculptures he created since he was a child. You can easily spend 1-2 hours here watching the display of 150-200 beautiful sculptures.

Khanderi fort

Khanderi, a water fort located 5 km off the coast of Maharashtra is on the island consisting of two high hills, one facing north and the other facing south. It contained two wells to supply water to the forces within, and a temple of Shree Vetal. Additionally, the fort has a few old metal canons, the tomb of Daud Pir, a local saint, and a musical stone that emits metallic musical notes when struck. Most of the fort is still intact, with the most prominent structure being an octagonal lighthouse built by the British in June 1867. You can climb up to the lighthouse and have a view of the Arabian sea 3600.

Navgaon – Fishermen’s village

Besides kihim, there lies navgaon, a fishermen’s village where one can witness a beautiful and colourful spread of boats lining along the shore, the fresh fishes lying in their baskets, some small fishes kept for drying in the sun, the people, their unique way of dressing and speaking and many more. You can also buy fresh fishes there right from the sea.

Kankeshwar Trekking Point

A hike of about less than an hour, its an easy trek to the temple. There are 700 steps and on the way, there are many spots where you can take in a long shoreline of the Arabian sea from a height. If the weather supports, you can also spot some buildings from south Mumbai on the north horizon.
